We are delighted to welcome Olga Zaitseva-Herz from the University of Alberta as a Visiting Fellow in February 2026, hosted at Denkraum Ukraine in Regensburg.
Olga holds a Ph.D. in Ethnomusicology and works as a scholar, educator, composer, and artist. Her expertise encompasses music performance, sound design, musicology, and vocal pedagogy, with a focus on the sensory and contextual dimensions of music as a living practice.
Her current work examines Ukrainian music in diaspora, particularly in Canada, and how music now serves urgent functions: raising funds for humanitarian and military aid, fostering resilience, and strengthening solidarity following Russia's 2022 invasion of Ukraine. She created the contemporary music piece Bakhmut Rhapsody and established an opera series titled When the Sirens Sing, which premiered at the Ukrainian Contemporary Music Festival in New York City in March 2024.
Concert-Lecture: "Ukrainian Songs that Tell History" – 14 February 2026, 17:00, Evangelisches Bildungswerk Regensburg, Am Ölberg 2.
