Claudia Zapata explores how indigenous societies are currently understood and represented, challenging prevailing associations with nature and static cultural notions. She examines how such representations persist in contemporary theoretical approaches — including decolonial studies and multiculturalism — while analyzing how indigenous authors and artists challenge these ideas through aesthetic and written expression.

Winner of the 2015 Ezequiel Martínez Estrada Essay Prize from Casa de las Américas. Academic at the Center for Latin American Cultural Studies, University of Chile, Santiago de Chile.
