Examination of a chapel in rural Piauí, Brazil, dedicated to "Ciganinho Milagroso" (the Miraculous Little Gypsy Boy). The talk reconstructs historical and mnemonic layers showing how inter-ethnic violence, culpability, and sacralization became intertwined, exploring the evolution from a massacre site to a pilgrimage location for Romani people.

Martin Fotta is Head of the Department of Mobility and Migration at the Institute of Ethnology of the Czech Academy of Sciences. His research explores Romani identities within Lusophone Atlantic history, their experiences as refugees following the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, and kinship practices as social resources during armed conflict.
