Discussion of Lilia Topouzova's new book published by Cornell University Press (summer 2025). The book provides the first comprehensive study of Bulgaria's forced-labor camps network, which operated from 1945–1989. Based on archival research and survivor interviews, it examines major camp sites like Belene and Lovech, post-1989 transitional justice efforts, and argues that Bulgaria's gulag legacy has been largely forgotten.
